P2452 fault code: DPF pressure sensor circuit problem

Plain-language definition

P2452Warning

Particulate Filter Pressure Sensor A Circuit

What does it mean?

The diesel particulate filter (DPF) pressure sensor measures the difference in exhaust pressure between the filter's inlet and outlet and passes it to the engine computer as an electrical signal. The engine computer uses this to work out how full the filter is and to decide when to run a regeneration. The letter A in the definition is the name given to this sensor in systems that may have more than one sensor.

P2452 is stored when the engine computer sees an electrical problem in this sensor's circuit: the signal may not be arriving at all, or it may be at a value that isn't possible. The problem may be in the sensor itself, but it may also be in the wiring, the connector or the sensor's supply line. On its own, this code doesn't mean the filter is full.

When the engine computer can't get reliable pressure data, it may switch to calculating how full the filter is from estimated values. The check engine light or a DPF warning may come on; on some cars engine power may be limited or regenerations may become irregular.

How serious is it?

Warning

It's a Warning-level code and usually comes from an electrical problem. Even so, because the engine computer can't properly track how full the filter is in the meantime, soot may build up in the filter unnoticed.

Severity is a guide; if the warning light is flashing or you notice symptoms while driving, have the car checked at a workshop.

Common general causes

  • A faulty differential pressure sensor
  • Looseness, corrosion or moisture in the sensor connector
  • Wiring routed close to the hot exhaust that has melted, broken or been damaged by chafing
  • A problem in the sensor's supply (reference voltage) or ground line
  • Less often, problems coming from the engine computer (ECU)

The list shows general causes; a workshop finds the actual cause on your car with a check.

How does it appear in the 2dakika report?

P2452Warning

Particulate Filter Pressure Sensor A Circuit

If the code is read as a confirmed (stored) fault, the report shows it with the "Warning" severity; in pending or past records, codes that don't request the warning light and aren't critical appear as "Info". If the engine computer stored them, the conditions when the fault was recorded (engine temperature, rpm, speed) are shown too.

Read this code with the OBD-X1, and clear it from the app after the repair.

Clearing the code doesn't fix the fault; if the problem persists, the code comes back.
