Modules and part compatibility

Part number, software version, and build and programming dates for each module. If the VIN stored in a module belongs to another car, the report flags it as "From another vehicle: make, model, year".

What the report shows for each module

  • Part number and software version, from the module's own record.
  • Build and programming dates, if the module reports them.
  • VIN record: whether the VIN the module stores belongs to this car or to another one.

What can be read varies by car. Some modules (for example, behind a security gateway) can't be reached, which doesn't mean the car is faulty.

What "From another vehicle" means

A record from another vehicle means the module was fitted from that vehicle (for example, a used part). The report states that vehicle's make, model and year. The VIN stored in the module is never shown; the report only states the result.

This is not a problem in itself, but it deserves attention on modules that keep the mileage, especially the instrument cluster.

Dates: may have been fitted later

A module made years after the car may have been fitted later. A later programming date may also just be a software update.

Not a spare-parts catalogue

This section doesn't find parts that fit your car; it shows the car's modules' own records and whether they belong to this car.
